Microsoft Office Irony: It’s Best Run On A Mac?

According to a recent Fortune Small Business article, the best way to run Microsoft Office is on a Mac. The article talks about some of the advantages and disadvantages of running Office on a Mac vs. a PC.

The article is worth a read if your small business is interested in running Office 2008 or perhaps even introducing Macs into your environment. The article does include one FUD quote however: “And if you use Web-based office productivity tools like Google Apps, Basecamp or Zoho, expect trouble. In my testing, pages just sometimes wouldn’t load or render properly. We never could figure out why.” I’m not sure what Jonathan Blum (the author) was doing, but using these sites in Firefox on my Mac works just fine.

If you’ve been having some problems with iPhone software 2.0, Apple hopefully has your fix. I just fired up iTunes tonight and much to my surprise, iPhone 2.0.1 software update was available. What’s included? Two words, “Bug fixes”. The update fills in at 242MB. I haven’t been having a lot of problems with my iPhone, but I have had a few crashes now and then. Hopefully 2.0.1 will treat my iPhone well.

If you follow the Apple rumor mill, no doubt that you’ve visited MacRumors. I don’t usually pay too much attention to Apple rumors, but I know a lot of people do. If you’re interested in the man behind MacRumors, the NY Times has a great article about him. Arnold Kim has been running MacRumors for eight years and recently stopped practicing medicine to run MacRumors full time. Head on over to the NT Times to read the rest of the article. Congratulations to Kim for being able to blog full time!

For everyone who has an iPhone and a WordPress based website, the team behind WordPress is releasing an iPhone app that you will want to download. WordPress for iPhone is currently “In Review” in the app store. The website linked above has a great screencast of the application. I’ll be downloading this the day it’s released. This app sure would be better with cut and paste though!

What’s It Like To Develop On The iPhone?

Curios about developing on the iPhone? Charlie Sorrel, from Wired, has a short interview with Brent Simmons, the developer of NetNewsWire. The article goes into some of the issues with current development efforts for the iPhone. Coincidently, NetNewsWire (iTunes link) was the first application I uninstalled on my iPhone. Which is odd since I’m such a huge fan of it on the Mac.
