iPhone Headed To Ireland
Written by Kevin Fordham
If you’re an clamoring for an iPhone in Ireland, your fix is on the way. O2 has announced that it will be the official iPhone carrier in Ireland. All the details have been posted to a special iPhone page on the O2 Ireland website. On March 14th, O2 will launch the iPhone in Ireland. The 8GB model will cost 399 euros and the 16GB model will set you back 499 euros. O2 iphone plans range from 45 to 100 euros. One omission from the iPhone plan is Visual Voicemail, which is currently not supported. There’s no word on if it will be supported at a later date. There’s also a 1GB data limit per month with additional charges for each MB after that. Rather than saying “unlimited”, O2 has instead capped your included data. Some might be upset that unlimited data is not included like here in the US, but 1GB would be nearly impossible to use in a month anyways. I’ve had my iPhone since lauch day and I’ve only received 550MB and sent 103MB.
Like the other countries, save France, the iPhone is only sold locked to the exclusively carrier. Purchasing the iPhone in Ireland will require you to enter into an 18 month contract. Both new and existing O2 customers will have to agree to the 18 month contract. You can pre-order the iPhone with a 100 euro deposit starting today.
There’s also some nice copy in the Terms & Conditions about modifications to your iPhone. “If you attempt to unlock iPhone and use it on another network, it may become permanently unusable.” “Making unauthorised modifications to the software on your iPhone violates the iPhone software license agreement, and the inability to use your iPhone due to unauthorised software modifications is not covered under your iPhone’s warranty.”
Happy iPhone-ing in Ireland!
