Aperture 2

It wasn’t that long ago that I said an update to Aperture couldn’t be all that far away. The wait is over. Apple quietly updated their professional level photo management software today. Aperture is the last major piece of Apple software to receive a significant update. Photogs stood by while the entire line of professional software received updates (Motion, Final Cut, Logic, and Shake) whille Aperture was the lone professional (and consumer) application not updated.

The price of Aperture 2 is $199, down from $299. An upgrade will set you back $99. Aperture 2 looks like a worthwhile update with over 100 new or updated features. The highlights include:

  • All-in-one Inspector and HUD
  • A more streamlined and updated UI
  • One key view cycling
  • Greatly improved full screen mode (which looks fantastic)
  • Ability to switch the Inspector position
  • Projects view with skimming (like iPhoto 08)
  • Quick preview mode
  • Publish to .Mac Web Gallery
  • New image processing tools
  • Increased capacity of master images in a single project (100,000)

Aperture 2 is on sale now. If you want to see what the new Aperture looks like, head on over to the features page where Apple has posted a few videos and screenshots. You can see the entire list of new features here.
